Evan Schmit is a passionate drummer with years of experience in the music industry.
Known for his vibrant and dynamic drumming style (and outfits to match), Evan has performed with numerous bands and artists, captivating audiences with his energy and skill.
His dedication to his craft is evident in every performance, and he continues to inspire aspiring drummers around the world.
In addition to performing, Evan is also a dedicated group and solo teacher, sharing his knowledge and expertise with students of all ages.
He believes in the power of music to bring people together and is committed to helping others discover their own musical potential.
Evan's musical journey began at an incredibly young age, when he started playing the violin and studying the Suzuki method at age 4.
By age 8, he had become one of the youngest members of the Charlotte Children's Choir, where he really 'found his voice'.
At age 9, drums began to really capture his interest, and he started teaching himself to play drums just like his dad.
Through choir, he met Charlotte piano legend Bill Gough and began to take private piano lessons with him, where he began to understand music theory and composition.
Beginning in middle school, Evan began to take drum lessons both privately and through the program at Piedmont IB Middle School.
In these lessons, he learned from renowned percussionist Stephanie Wilson, who developed him from a beginner to a multiple-time district timpanist.
At this time, the Charlotte Children's Choir transformed into the Young Voices of the Carolinas, and Evan performed in both Carnegie Hall and for Sunday mass at the Vatican with them.
Beginning in high school, Evan studied under percussionist Trevor Cook, who helped him refine his own voice and explore the world of jazz and improvisation.
Evan continued to develop as an all-around percussionist through this time.
He continued to dominate district and state level timpani positions, began playing professional orchestral gigs with Trevor Cook, and started performing in a number of bands throughout Charlotte.
Also around this time, Evan began teaching private lessons himself, starting by helping his classmates prepare for their own musical endeavors.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Evan took the opportunity to further his reach by learning how to record, mix, and master music in a home studio setting.
Today, Evan continues his education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he studies Percussion Performance under the legendary Rick Dior, as well as a double major in Computer Science.
Performances, teaching, and studio work continue to keep Evan busy, and he continues to seek out the future of music.
His most recent projects include shoegaze band Catchbliss, as well as developing experimental modular techno music as a solo artist.
He is also developing new technologies that allow for interaction between live musicians and audience members to develop fully improvised rave shows.
